Trainee photojournalist gang-raped in Mumbai, while her colleague tied up with rope

Mumbai is increasingly becoming unsafe for women. Just three days ago, a US woman was attacked by an unidentified man in a first class ladies compartment between Marines Lines and Charni Road Station. Now, a trainee photojournalist (22) was allegedly gang-raped by a few men in Mahalaxmi area in Mumbai on Thursday evening.
The Mumbai Police has detained 10 men from the mill compound.

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil has visited Jaslok Hospital where the victim is being treated. He has promised everything possible to nab the culprits. Nair hospital's Head of forensic Department Dr. Mohite has been appointed to look into the case.

Working for a city magazine, the woman had gone for an assignment to Shakti Mills compound near Famous Studio around 6 pm. Another male colleague was also with her.

When they were taking photos, two of the accused approached them and asked them to take permission from their “superiors”. She was led into a secluded area, while her colleague waited outside.

While the duo led her away, the other three tied up her colleague with a rope and went back to join the others. All five of them then took turns raping her for half an hour.

After the accused fled the spot, she scrambled outside to find her friend tied up. The traumatised victim freed him, and he then took her to Jaslok Hospital on Peddar Road.

The Shakti Mills compound is infamous for drug addicts. The girl reached Jaslok Hospital at Peddar Road around 10 pm in the night. Hospital authorities who treated her informed the NM Joshi Marg police about the case.

It is still unclear how the girl reached the hospital. The identity and number of men who violated her is not immediately clear. Police teams have reached the spot and are investigating the case.
