Thousands of Canadian hopefuls sign up for Mars mission

Crystal says Mars is the next frontier. Her curiosity stems from a childhood fascination with space and exploration, "I grew up watching Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, every Star Trek ever made, StarGate. I just absolutely love outer space and anything to do with science fiction." If it turned out Mars One was a hoax, she wouldn't be too upset:"If this whole thing turns out to be a prank, I would definitely laugh."early 7,000 Canadians are competing for a coveted spot on what would be the ultimate commute — to Mars.
Dutch entrepreneur Bas Landorp plans to establish a human colony on the red planet by 2023, and is looking for volunteers in what could very well be a one-way mission.
More than 165,000 applicants from 140 countries have currently signed up for the $6-billion Mars One expedition.
And it seems among them there are thousands of Canadians who have itchy inter-galactic feet.
Every candidate had to post a video to the Mars One website explaining why they should be one of the lucky four colonists.
