Just two days after celebrated filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh passed away,
the Bachchan family and many members of the Hindi film industry
tweeted/blogged/texted their condolences.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who worked with the filmmaker in the Bengali film ‘Chokher Bali’ and Hindi movie ‘Raincoat’, in a statement said; “I am shocked and deeply sadden by this news. I just can’t believe it!! May his soul rest in peace.”
Ghosh, who was as suffering from pancreatitis, died of a cardiac arrest at his Kolkata residence on May 30.
The 49-year-old filmmaker has shared some special bonds with the Bachchan clan, and worked with each (acting) member of the family.
“Just realised that Ritu da (Ghosh) was the only director that all my family have worked with individually,” tweeted Abhishek, who worked with him in the Bengali film ‘Antarmahal’ in 2005.
“Absolutely shocked with the news of the passing of Ritu da. A dear friend and a great director and a wonderful, wonderful human. RIP Rituda.
“Had the honour of working with him in Antarmahal. Such a fine director. Will really miss his exuberance and zest for the movies and life.”
Amitabh Bachchan, who worked with Rituparno in ‘The Last Lear’, wrote fondly about the director in his blog.
“Rituparno Ghosh, that young and most respected director from Bengal, passed away...Suddenly, and most unexpectedly! It has been extremely shocking for all of us and indeed the entire film fraternity, at this most rude and unbelievable news.
“49 years is no age to die, but Ritu Da as we affectionately called him has gone, and left a huge void in the world of some of the most progressive work done in recent times.”
Jaya Bachchan has also worked with Ghosh in the yet-to-be-released film ‘Sunglass’.
Other members of the film industry tweeted their tributes.
“Shocked to hear about Rituda! Not sinking in! Fondest memories of working with him in the Last Lear! RIP,” wrote actress Divya Dutta.
“Rituparno Ghosh had great sense of humour. He had a brilliant understanding of human behaviour. Will miss him and his cinema. RIP my friend,” tweeted Anupam Kher.
"Shocked by passing of Rituparno Ghosh. He was dreaming of getting into what he called his 'next phase'. Hugely creative explorer on film,” describes renowned filmmaker Shekar Kapur.
Rituparno won the National film award for Best Director for his Bengali film Abohoman
