MANIPAL,
(Karnataka): Two of the three men accused of abducting and gang-raping a
medical student in Manipal on June 20 have been arrested, police said
on Thursday.
"We arrested Yogesh and Harish in Udupi and have sent a team to Goa to nab the third accused (Anand)," Udupi Superintendent of Police MB Boralingaiah said.
A major educational centre, Manipal is five kilometers from the Udupi temple town on the west coast of the state and 410 km from Bangalore.
Police admitted Yogesh to a state-run hospital as he attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison minutes before he was nabbed.
A case was registered on June 21 against the accused, including an auto driver, for abduction and rape.
The victim, a fourth-year student of Kasturba Medical College, was abducted while waiting to hire an auto outside the Manipal University to return to her flat from the library on June 20 night. Read more at :
