With less than a month until she is due to give
birth, the Duchess of Cambridge left the revelry to her husband
yesterday as Prince William was joint best man at the marriage of one of
his closest friends.
William, who turned 31 on
Friday, was kept company by his brother Prince Harry, who was an usher,
cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Kate’s sister Pippa
Middleton at the wedding of Thomas Van Straubenzee to Lady Melissa Percy
in Northumberland.
Hogwarts provided the
backdrop for the windswept nuptials, which saw Harry’s ex-girlfriend
Chelsy Davy walk up the aisle as bridesmaid while his current squeeze
Cressida Bonas joined him in the pews.
The
bride, 26, is the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of
Northumberland whose 1,000-year-old ancestral home Alnwick Castle was
cast as Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films.
The
30-year-old groom, an estate agent, is William’s best friend from
Ludgrove, his Berkshire prep school, and accompanied the Prince on his
gap year to New Zealand in 2005.
When he was
mugged in London while on the phone to Harry last year, the Prince
alerted the police and raced across the capital to check he was all
right.
Both princes attended Thomas’s stag do in London earlier this month.
