Cricket jinx hits Malayalam film

Celebrated Malayalam lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri hoped to find the proverbial pot of gold when he zeroed in on Mazhavillin Attam Vare , which means 'till the end of the rainbow', as the name of his upcoming film depicting the love story of a Pakistani cricketer and his Keralite fan.

But he has had to learn the hard way that if you are making a film in the backdrop of cricket, with real players in the cast, it's the phrasal meaning of the title that better explains it – "much sought after but very difficult to achieve". Namboothiri had initially contacted Pakistani bowler Mohammad Asif to play his film's hero but the deal fell through following the latter's arrest on spot- fixing charges. And now another of his cast- members has landed in the soup for spot- fixing - cricketer S. Sreesanth had already shot a few scenes for the film before he was arrested on May 15.

The portions featuring the disgraced bowler, who reportedly didn't demand any payment for the film, will now be deleted, despite the fact that personally, Namboothiri holds him in great esteem. "I don't want to risk my film," he said.

Talking about his dream project, he added that he was inspired by the idea of cricket building a bridge between India and Pakistan.

The film, which Namboothiri hopes to release on Onam in September, now stars London- based pop singer Abbas Hasan, with former Indian cricketers Syed Kirmani and Robin Singh playing important roles
