Alizé Cornet won the Strasbourg International tennis tournament over
the Czech Lucie Hradecka 7-6 (4) and 6-0 Saturday, one day after edging
Westmount’s Eugenie Bouchard in a hard-fought match.
Cornet, who lost in the finals last year, narrowly edged Hradecka in a difficult first set but easily took the second set in just 25 minutes.
Cornet reached the finals after winning a squeaker against the rising Bouchard Friday by the score of 7-5, 6-7 (5) and 6-3.
The tournament is considered a tune-up for the French Open, where women’s play begins Sunday.
Bouchard, 19, is ranked 92 and will be pitted in first round play at Roland Garros against the Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova, ranked 53.
The winner of that match will likely be pitted against Maria Sharapova in second round action.
