top-10-aeronautical-engineering-colleges-in-india

Top 10 Aerospace Engineering colleges in India are:

  1. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay :Established in 1966-67 as the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, the department was renamed the Department of Aerospace Engineering in 1992. The department runs strong undergraduate and graduate programs in aerospace engineering, and carries out research in several areas of aeronautical and aerospace sciences.
  2. Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur: The department was set up in 1965 leading to B.Tech (Hons.) degree after a high power committee appointed by GOI stressed the need for manpower training in the field of Aeronautical Engineering. Over the years, the department has built up laboratories in the areas of aerodynamics, structures and propulsion. A Centre of Excellence for Composite Structures Technology, funded by ARDB, has been established in 1999. Some major thrust areas of the future are Aerospace Control Systems, Aero-Servo-Elasticity, Aerothermo-Mechanics, Industrial Aerodynamics, Air Breathing Propulsion, Composites, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Non-destructive testing and Wind Energy. Currently, the research efforts of the faculty are supported by a large number of projects sponsored by ARDB, ADA, ISRO, DST, AICTE, MHRD and many other organisations.
  3. Indian Institute of Technology, Madras : The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) was established in 1969. Since then it has been in the forefont of fundamental and applied research & development with scientific and social impact in the country. The department has been involved in activities supporting our national ambitions in the field of Aerospace Engineering. Continued interaction with R&D agencies of international repute in the field of aerospace engineering has led to mutually beneficial research activities. One of the major contributions to our society has been in the form of training manpower via graduate research programs (PhD and Master of Science by research) as well as course based programs (M.Tech, Dual Degree and B.Tech).
  4. Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur : The Aerospace Engineering Department is more than 40 years old. Till 1991, it was known as Aeronautical Engineering Department. The name change was accompanied by addition of topics relating to spacecraft in the UG curriculum
  5. IIST , Thiruvanatapuram : IIST is Asia’s first Space Institute and the first in the world to offer the complete range of undergraduate, post graduate, doctoral programmes with specific focus to space science, technology and applications.
  6. Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai : The Department has research programs leading to M.S and Ph.D Degrees. The faculty in the Department concentrates on three major field of Aeronautical Engineering viz., Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structures and Propulsion. The Department has the potential to carry out research in Composite Structures, Computational Mechanics, Non – Destructive Testing
