This is the moment the princess and the PI, two icons of the 1980s, shared an intimate waltz.
The night Diana took to the floor with Hollywood heart-throb Tom Selleck, who played Magnum PI in the hit TV series, was the same evening Di, then 24, captivated America by dancing with President Ronald Reagan and doing the twist with film star John Travolta.
Those famous photographs became public but this shot – and one of her with Clint Eastwood at the dinner in Washington – was never published.

The snaps were taken by White House photographer Pete Souza
during Prince Charles and Diana’s visit in 1985 and form part of a new
TV show about the princess’s dresses and the significance of her
ever-changing style and fashion sense. This appearance was a turning point for the royal couple, when the public started focusing more on her than on Charles.
It was after this event he said “I am not a glove puppet” when people kept asking him about Diana and Travolta.
