Jwala Gutta can participate in all tournaments: High Court tells BAI

The Delhi High Court has passed a stay-order on the recommendation of a life-ban on shuttler Jwala Gutta by the Badminton Association of India, on Thursday. The player had challenged the punishment meted out to her - on disciplinary grounds - a day earlier.

The court has said that Gutta should be allowed to participate in all tournaments while the disciplinary committee continues its probe on the charges leveled against her. A BAI committee had recommended a life-ban on the feisty veteran for allegedly trying to stop her Delhi Smashers teammates from playing a match against Banga Beats in the recent Indian Badminton League.

The committee had also said that Gutta should not participate in any national or international tournaments till the case was disposed of. BAI on Wednesday had withdrawn Gutta's participation in the upcoming Denmark Open without informing her.

An angry Gutta sought legal help and the Delhi High Court ruled in her favour. "I am happy with the decision," she was quoted as saying. She however also told sports.ndtv.com that she won't be able to participate in Denmark Open at such a sort notice period.
