100 years of Indian Cinema Party at Cannes

This was perhaps the most important party at the 66the Cannes Film Festival in grand celebration of the 100 years of Indian Cinema at the, with a glitzy Red Carpet event of BOMBAY TALKIES, followed by a screening in the presence of the cast and crew, and select invitees. The entire team of Bombay Talkies graced the Red Carpet; this included producer Ashi Dua of Flying Unicorn Entertainment, and the four celebrated directors of the film, namely, Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, and Dibakar Banerjee. Amongst the select invitees were Dr. K Chiranjeevi, Hon'ble Minister for Tourism; Uday Kumar Varma, Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; and Arun Kumar Singh, Ambassador of India to France.

The evening concluded with the official dinner hosted jointly by Festival De Cannes and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the presence of select and highly esteemed film fraternity from across the world. The guests were welcomed with fragrant jasmine flower garlands and colorful silk scarves. Indian guests included leading and established actors, directors and producers, and film fraternity, key representatives of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Tourism, and actors like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nandita Das (jury member on CineFondation) Vidya Balan (jury member- Competition), Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique and the cast and crew of Indian films in Cannes 2013 namely, UGLY, THE LUNCHBOX, MONSOON SHOOTOUT and BOMBAY TALKIES. The official dinner began with Thierry Fremaux, General Delegate of the Festival, addressing the guests and talking about Cannes 2013 celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema and the films in various sections. He also wished the fraternity more Indian films in the coming years. Dr. K Chiranjeevi then addressed the guests, expressing gratitude to Festival de Cannes celebrating the important occasion of Indian Cinema completing a 100 years. He reiterated the announcement of Single Window Clearance, which will simplify procedures and expedite clearances for producers desirous of shooting films in India. Hon'ble Minister invited the guests to visit the beautiful locations in India for shooting their films, documentaries and television series. Ms. Aurelie Filippetti, Hon'ble Minister for Culture, Govt of France, expressed joy of celebrating centenary of Indian Cinema at Cannes. She also expressed hope that the relationship between Cannes film festival and India would grow stronger in the coming years
